"Midsummer Night" Original Gouache by William St. John Harper
Item Details
An original gouache painting on paper titled Midsummer Night (Portrait) by American artist William St. John Harper (1851-1910). The painting depicts a portrait in profile wearing a leafy crown, done in a gray and soft pastel palette. The painting is presented under glass in a beige linen mat with a gold filet and frame beaded at the inner edge. A gallery label is affixed to the back stating the title and artist.
William St. John Harper was active in East Hampton and New York as a painter, etcher, illustrator and teacher. His first studies were at the Brooklyn Academy of Design then from 1872 to 1875 he studied at the National Academy of Design and then in Paris. Condition
Both the painting and the frame are in very good condition.
