Original Oil Painting of Fanciful Fish by Edger Yeager Dated 1960

An original oil painting on stretched canvas of a colorful fish by American modernist Edgar Yeager (Detroit, Michigan 1904-1997). The fanciful painting, signed and dated 1960, expressively illustrates the profile of a fish in bold outline with spiked green eyelashes and raised paint at the eye. The artist’s signature is found in the lower right corner and an old partial label affixed to the back stretcher reads ‘Annual Exhibit for Michigan Artists. The Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Michigan’.

Edgar Yeager is credited for being one of the first American modernists. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and studied under Robert A. Herzberg at the Detroit School of Fine and Applied Arts. His work has been exhibited from coast to coast and can be found in many prestigious collections and institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art. Condition

There is some very light wear at the edges of the stretcher. Please note the painting remains un-framed.
