"Open Book Still Life" Framed Painting by Edgar Yeager Dated 1933

An original oil painting on stretched canvas titled Open Book Still Life by American modernist Edgar Yeager (Detroit, Michigan 1904-1997). The still life is strong in a predominately blue palette with bold black outlining, illustrating an open book, bottle, pipe and coffee cup all arranged casually on a floral cloth. The artist’s vivid red signature is found in the lower right corner and the painting has been professionally presented in a beautiful wood frame with shell carved detailing and a rope edge. The gallery label remains affixed to the back of the painting providing the title of the painting and the date, 1933.

Edgar Louis Yaeger is credited for being one of the first American modernists. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and studied under Robert A. Herzberg at the Detroit School of Fine and Applied Arts. His work has been exhibited from coast to coast and can be found in many prestigious collections and institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art.
