An oil painting of an impressionist landscape signed ‘M.B. Beck’. This work work features a large tree dominating the foreground and a large body of water surrounded by a mountainous landscape receding to the distant background. The radiant sun shines through the tree branches and reflects a glowing strip on the water below. With dabs and dashes of color and loose, painterly brushstrokes, and areas of thick impasto, the artist provides an impressionist rendering of the serene landscape. The painting is signed in brown to the lower right. It is presented in a gold-tone wood frame with an elaborate floral relief design.
Condition
- couple inches of in-painting to the lower left; several inches of in-painting present to the lower center area of composition; signature is clean; mended and repaired tears in canvas to the lower right; large white patches adhered to the verso of canvas; some craquelure throughout composition; wear to frame including stains particularly in lower right corner and left inner border; cracks, scratches, and discoloration throughout frame.
