A hand-knotted Persian wool area rug. The rug features an ornate pendant medallion in a color palette of blue, black, green, cream and oranges on a rectangular ruby red field with scrolled edges. The central lozenge is surrounded by a floral and foliate pattern of lotus flowers, Shah Abassi palmettes and scrolled, split leaves in complementary colors on a slate blue field. It has a compound border of floral elements, featuring a wide primary band of carnation-like flowers in the field colors, with overcast edges and very short, cotton warp fringe to each end. Tagged to reverse, ‘Made in Iran, Handwoven Carpets and Rugs.’
