Ink Wash
A selection of ink drawings of Virginia landmarks by Richard C. Guy. These seven drawings on paper include notable locations the Wayside Inn, Arlington House, Brentsville Courthouse, Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Governor’s Palace, Chatham Manor and Christ Church. Each drawing is rendered with energetic linework and controlled cross-hatched marks. An artist signature and copyright can be seen to the margins of the composition, with The Arlington House dated 1996. Richard Guy (1928-2014) was an illustrator and painter whose work focused on historical sites and landmarks both in and outside of Washington, DC. Guy was particularly interested in the Civil War and was known for his portraits of military figures.
Condition
- to fair; corners are bent; tape residue present; foxing around edges; acid burned; Mount Vernon Baptist Church has red tape on it; Christ Church is still matted but mat is falling apart and piece has glue residue; stains around edges.
