An original oil painting on stretched canvas by Cincinnati artist Arthur Helwig (1899-1976) titled Bend in the Ohio, signed in the lower right corner. The painting depicts a landscape with sparse trees framing the composition on the right and the river bend winding through the center. The hint of a small river town is illustrated on the banks and a small vessel is navigating the river. The green palette suggests a summer landscape. The painting retains an old scrap of tape to the back which is hand written with the title, the canvas is un-framed.

Arthur Helwig was a notable artist who studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Wessel, James Hopkins and John Weis then later at Acadamies Julian and Modern in Paris. Helwig was an active artist and a instructor for well over four decades years and and past president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig exhibited across the United States and in European museums winning numerous awards for his paintings to include four 1st prize awards in national shows for his impressive lithographic prints. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well known mural painter. His work has been featured in the collections of numerous museums across the United States including: The Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, The Philadelphia Museum and The Cleveland Art Museum.
