A Chinese coromandel lacquer carved wood decorative panels. Known as kuan cai, literally “incised colors” in Chinese, coromandel lacquer features a black lacquer field with designs incised and painted a multitude of vibrant shades. The six panels depict an elegant courtyard with several figures engaged in various activities. The polychromed scene is enhanced with a gold-tone ground. Each piece is framed with black wood that has carved floral accents. Along the top of each panel is a metal Chinese hanger.
