Circa 1800 George III Secretary Bookcase

Item Details

A fine, circa 1800 George III secretary bookcase. The mahogany-veneered case features a projecting cornice above two glazed doors with arched mullions before three adjustable shelves. The lower case has a secretaire drawer with a fall front opening to a series of pigeonholes and drawers surrounding a central, foliate-inlaid prospect door. The tooled, leather writing surface extends over a stack of three graduated and cockbeaded long drawers. The fronts are fitted with oval, brass pulls and the case is further embellished with inlaid escutcheons and lightwood stringing. The whole piece rises on flared, French feet centered by a bowed apron.
