An oil painting on stretched canvas titled Coastal Waves created by listed American artist Frederick Matzow (Connecticut; 1861-1938) in 1912. This work features a seascape with waves crashing into large coastal rock formations. A single sailboat is faintly visible on the distant horizon, silhouetted against a gray sky hovering above. The painting is signed in off-white to the lower left. Presented without a frame. Matzow was known for his landscapes and coastal views.

- paint loss throughout composition especially along canvas edges; stains scattered throughout painting especially along edges and visible throughout rocks and sea; horizontal crease near top of canvas.
