A vintage handwoven wool Heriz area rug. The rug enjoys a background field in a rich shade of garnet red, populated with an overall design of arabesques, and flowers in shades of light blue, lavender, pale yellow, leaf green and indigo blue. To the rug’s center is featured an eight-pointed star medallion in indigo blue, with a square medallion with pointed sides to the center. The rug is finished with guard stripes in floral motifs, as well as a off white major border, also populated with an array of floral and foliate forms. The rug is finished to both ends with a cotton warp fringe.
