A pastel drawing on paper titled Ingénue by contemporary artist Derek James Lynch (San Fransisco, 21st-Century). The work depicts a male and female figure in a half-length portrait. The man wraps an arm around the woman’s shoulder. The term ‘ingénue’ refers to a stock character in film, literature, and theatre. She is an innocent and wholesome young woman, related to the ‘damsel-in-distress’ troupe. This piece dates from 1982, the artist’s early career. Signed and dated to the upper left in graphite. Mounted onto white matting, presented under acrylic, and housed in a wooden frame. To the verso is a descriptive label.

- tears to paper backing; scuffing to frame; pinholes in each corner of paper from previously being hung.
