Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Pictorial Kerman-Style Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Kerman-style wool area rug. It features a field woven in tones of sky blue, taupe and forest green that is densely populated with images of people and animals engaged in everyday activities, in a beautiful garden landscape, filled with trees, flowers, birds, and animals. Scattered throughout are water elements with large waterfowl. The main border of the rug features a cream field with repeating palmette designs, with large palmettes on the outer corners containing an image of a man and woman embracing, with a repeated pattern of cartouches, each with images of people, gazelle or woven script, likely Koranic verse. The guard borders feature a burnt orange scrolled leaf and floral motif. The rug has overcast edges and long, hand-tied wool warp fringe to each end. Unmarked.
