F. Luis Mora Original Painting "Rosemary In Her Crib"

An original oil painting on stretched canvas dated 1919 by well listed artist Francis Luis Mora (Uruguay-born American 1874-1940), titled Rosemary in her Crib. Baby Rosemary is portrayed awake in her crib with a pastel blanket, wearing only one blue bootie. A favorite doll is propped on a pillow at the opposite end of the crib and a floral painting hangs above. The painting is in soft focus with the detailed emphasis being placed on the infant’s facial features. The artist’s signature and date are in the lower left corner and the painting is presented in a period arts and crafts frame in gold gilt. The painting was included in a New York gallery retrospective on the artist as noted on the label affixed to the verso.
Francis Luis Mora (1874-1940) was an Uruguayan-born American figural painter who was heavily influenced by the work of Diego eminent. Francis received his earliest art education from his sculptor father then studied at both the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Art Students League of New York in 1892. During a European trip visiting the Museo del Prado, Francis met William Merritt Chase and would later teach at the Chase School of Art (later re-named Parsons). Francis and his first wife Sonia had one child, Rosemary, presumably the child in this painting, he would later become a successful easel painter and muralist receiving numerous awards and commissions to include those from Andrew Carnegie, President Warren Harding and many other eminent families. His works are found in over thirty-four museums to include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY and the Smithsonian, Washington DC.
Condition
The edge of the frame has minor chips and nicks to the finish.
