A pair of engravings on paper of women. This collection includes an engraving by J. Brown of an original piece by F. Roffe titled The Suppliant and was originally published in ‘The Art Journal’ of 1853. The print depicts a statue of a semi-nude woman looking towards to the sky and holding an infant who is sucking on his thumb. The set also includes an engraving by Thomas Burke (1749-1815) of an original art by Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807) titled Cupid binding Aglaia to a Laurel. The print depicts the mythological scene of Aglaia asleep under a tree while cupid kneels beside her tying her to the tree.

Condition

- to fair; pencil markings to the front lower right corner; some foxing; pages yellowing; edgewear; some color fading.
