After Isidore Bonheur Large Equestrian Bronze

Item Details

A signed large equestrian bronze after Isidore Jules Bonheur (French, 1827-1901). The statue depicts a jockey astride his walking horse, the jockey with riding crop in his left hand. The finely patinaed statue is signed to the naturalistic rectangular bronze plinth base.
Isidore Jules Bonheur was born in Bordeaux and studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. By 1848, Bonheur was focused on his sculptural work, winning medals at the Paris Salon in the 1860s. Bonheur had a keen eye for the natural world and his sculptures reflect his commitment to the Realist School with refined and sensitive depictions of animal movements and personalities.
