Edwina Emery Equestrian Bronze Titled "Iroquois"

Item Details

A limited edition equestrian bronze titled Iroquois after a work by Edwina Emery (British, b. 1942). The bronze, numbered one of an edition of nine, and dated 1987, depicts the horse Iroquois, the first American-bred winner of the Kentucky Derby with jockey Fred Archer up. The bronze is in a patinaed brown finish, mounted on a fitted wooden base, and signed, dated and numbered to the naturalistic bronze plinth. A brass plaque to the front base denotes the historic event in 1881 when Iroquois won the Kentucky Derby. When Iroquois died at Belle Meade on December 17, 1899 he was still considered the most famous Thoroughbred of the time. Emery is known for her animal bronzes and her work is internationally collected.
