Late 1800s “Half Hours with the Best Authors” Hardcover Books

A grouping of three late 1800s editions of Half Hours with the Best Authors by Charles Knight, published by Porter & Coates of Philadelphia, volumes I through III. The books have Victorian olive green cloth board covers with ornate black embossed illustrations and gilt accents to the cover and spine. Each book features short passages from well-regarded poetry and literary works, with short biographical and critical notes added by Charles Knight. The books feature three black and white engraved plates depicting busts of Wordsworth, Robert Burns and Spenser. There are personal inscriptions to blank inside cover pages dated ‘Dec 25/80.’
Condition
- personal inscriptions, some scuffing and wear to covers, one with tearing to inside end papers at spine and some discoloration.
