Jack Meanwell Original Oil on Canvas Abstracted Landscape

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas by well-listed Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Meanwell (Cincinnati, 1919-2005). The painting is a stunning example of the abstracted landscapes the artist is best-known for, though completed on a larger scale than most of his other works. The painting depicts a forested hilly landscape painted in thick, buttery strokes of thoughtfully chosen paint colors. It is signed in-wet-paint to the lower left. The painting is presented in a thin gold tone metal frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso. Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is often associated with fellow Cincinnati painter Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell-Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
