After Isidore Bonheur Large Equestrian Bronze

Item Details

A finely equestrian bronze titled Winner’s Circle, recast from the 1862 original by Isidore Bonheur (French, 1827-1901). The statue depicts a jockey astride his winning horse. The statue is signed to the naturalistic bronze base. The piece is mounted on a dark gray marble plinth.
Isidore Jules Bonheur was born in Bordeaux and studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. By 1848, Bonheur was focused on his sculptural work, winning medals at the Paris Salon in the 1860s. Bonheur had a keen eye for the natural world and his sculptures reflect his commitment to the Realist School with refined and sensitive depictions of animal movements and personalities.
