Harlan Hubbard "Barnyard Siesta" Original Oil Painting

Item Details

An original oil painting on raw canvas by acclaimed artist and author Harlan Hubbard (Bellevue, KY, 1900 – Madison, IN, 1988) titled, Barnyard Siesta. The piece, nailed to composite board, features a brood of hens in pale earth tones, poised on a weather-beaten sleigh and is uniquely framed in repurposed barn siding material. It is signed on the verso of the stretcher, with the title as well as place of painting, Milton Kentucky. Provenance accompanying the piece includes a personal hand written note from the artist to the original buyer.

A well-accomplished painting by this somewhat mythical figure, Harlan’s work is mirrored by his lifestyle, simple yet rich. Educated at the National Institute of Design and the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Hubbard’s oeuvre speaks of his time on the river, in the country, eschewing much of the modern world.
