An oil painting on canvas Trishul and Nanda Devi Before Sunrise with Autumn Cherry Blossoms by well-listed Ohio artist Earl Henry Brewster (American; 1878 – 1957). Depicted in the foreground are two flowering cherry blossom trees within a Himalayan landscape. In the background the mountain peaks of Trisul and Nanda Devi starting to be illuminated by the rising sun. This piece is signed to the lower right and titled along the top stretcher to the verso. Housed without glass in a painted white ribbed frame. Accompanying this piece is an exhibition catalog titled The Divinity That Stirs Within Us which encompasses works by Earl Henry Brewster (1878 – 1957), Achsah Barlow Brewster (1878-1945), and the sculptor Willi Soukop, R.A. (b.1907).

Earl Henry Brewster is best known for his gestural oil landscapes of coastal and street scenes. He began his formal artistic training at the Cleveland School of Art in 1898. Upon graduating, Brewster further pursued his artistic career and moved to New York, refining his technique while continuing his education at the New York School of Art and at the Art Students League, working under the likes of Frank Vincent Du Mond. In doing so he established his distinctive, signature painting style and content for which he became recognized. Brewster moved to India in 1936 where he became immersed in Buddhism. His works are held in a variety of public and private institutions, including the National Academy of Design, the New York Art School, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the Galerie Cheron and Grand Palais in Paris, the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh in India, among others.

Condition

- under UV light signs of inpainting are presented along with the sky and mountain range as well as the lower left and right; the signature has remained untouched; the piece has been relined and strip lining is present along the edges; some scuffs and scratches are present to the frame.
