After Francis Calcraft Turner Aquatint "Bachelor's Hall"
Item Details
An antique aquatint after Bachelor’s Hall by Francis Calcraft Turner (British, c. 1782–1846). This print, circa 1844, depicts a group of gentleman gathering in a hall, celebrating after a fox hunt. Beneath the image is an excerpt from the traditional hunting song alternately called Reynard the Fox, Tally Ho, or Hark Away: ‘Sly reynard’s brought home, while the horns sound a call. / And now you’re all welcome to Bachelor’s Hall. / The savory Sir-loin, grateful smokes on the Board / And Bacchus pours Wine from his favorite hoard. / Come on then, do honor to this Jovial place, / And enjoy the sweet pleasures that spring from the Chase, / Hark away, hark away, / While our spirits are gay, / Let us drink to the joys of the next coming day.’ It is set behind glass and a white mat in a gilt-toned frame with a wire to the verso for hanging.
