Clintel Steed Oil Painting on Board "Portrait of a Man"
Item Details
An oil painting on wood board titled Portrait of a Man by well-listed artist Clintel Steed (American, b. 1977). Created in 2001, the work depicts the face of a man with thick impasto textures and heavy brushstrokes. Signed, titled, and dated to the verso. Presented without a frame.
Clintel Steed grew up in a predominantly African American and Pentecostal community, which is an evident influence to his paintings. His work is a personal dialogue with African American culture, contemporary politics, and the Biblical struggle between good and evil. Stylistically, much of his work is rendered in thick impasto and expressionistic brushstrokes loosely applied throughout his compositions. He acquired his formal artistic training at the Art Institute of Chicago receiving a BFA in 1999 and his MFA from Indiana University in 2001. During his artistic career, he presented his work in multiple locations including the Indiana University Art Museum, New York Studio School and the National Academy of Design, among others.
