A 1987 limited edition woodcut on paper titled A Secret Place by listed Illinois artist Gordon Hartshorne (1926-2004). This abstract work depicts a yellow and a red form underneath a mottled blue that curled and winds through a speckled green ground. It is numbered thirteen out of an edition of fifty, titled, and signed in pencil along the bottom.This work is presented with a white mat, under glass, in a gold tone wooden frame, wired for hanging.
Chicago-born Hartshorne studied at the University of Illinois-Champaign and served in the U.S Navy, before working as an art director for publishing firm Rand McNally and Company for thirty-six years. He studied Japanese woodcut methods for decades, and used the traditional medium to depict the American landscape.For more artist information, please see link attached below.
