Edgar Yeager Oil Painting on Canvas "The Bridge"

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas entitled The Bridge by well-listed American artist Edgar Yeager (1904-1997). This landscape features a garden with lush trees and a waterway reflecting the scenery. The focal point is the arched bridged presented in within the center of the composition. The background has a small rotunda style building with an American flag waving in the wind on top. The composition is portrayed in a post-impressionist style with vibrant colors, thick dark outlines, distorted perspective, and an overall sense of flatness throughout the composition. The piece is signed to the lower right and a label from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC is present to the verso. Housed without glass in a recessed white frame.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
