Antique Lithograph After F. Hartwich "Fidelity"

A Victorian-era lithograph on paper after an original painting by F. Hartwich, published by F. Silber of Berlin. The monochromatic piece, titled Fidelity depicts a young child in a white dress sitting on a large Bernese Mountain Dog. The two sit together on a cushion, as fine furniture and drapes can be seen in the background, with a pastoral countryside scene viewable through an open window. The piece is titled to the lower center and noted ‘Painted by F. Hartwich’ in plate to the lower right. The lower left margin bears a printer’s notation of ‘Published by F. Silber, Berlin, Louisen, Str 53’. The print is presented under glass in a beveled wooden frame with wire to the back for hanging.

Condition

- item would benefit from cleaning; fading and foxing to print; area of discoloration to cheek of child figure; small creases present; frame is in Fair to Poor condition with dust and debris, loose joints, surface scratches, tarnish, as well as torn paper and tape to verso. (ARTIAS)
