Cast Iron Figural Squirrel and Tree Stump Mechanical Bank

A cast iron figural mechanical bank of a squirrel and a tree stump by Mechanical Novelty Works, New Britain, Connecticut, circa 1880. To operate, a coin is placed on the squirrel’s acorn, when the lower button is depressed, the squirrel leans forward and deposits the coin into the stump. Unmarked but has a printed ‘59’ paper inventory label to the bottom.
