A 19th century Mitchell and Rammelsberg Furniture Company (Cincinnati, Ohio 1846-1881) etagere in rosewood. The impressive piece is heavily carved in rosewood with a mirrored back and graduated shelves at each side over a marble shelf and drawer at the bottom (which is signed to the interior). The ornately carved frame displays scrolled foliate and floral detailing, the etagere rises on scrolled feet.
The Mitchell and Rammelsberg Furniture Company company began doing business in Cincinnati, Ohio around 1846, it is widely regarded as one of the premier manufacturers of Victorian-era furniture. The company was renowned for producing furniture that was both beautifully crafted as well as functional and the popularity of the Mitchell and Rammelsberg brand flourished after the company exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876.
