Ludwigsburg Figure 1806-1816 and Others

An early 19th century Ludwigsburg figure with two others. The featured example was made between 1805-16 was produced after the work of eighteenth-century sculptor Christian Fredrich Wilhelm Beyer who was famed for his musicians. The Ludwigsburg factory ceased manufacturing in 1824 when operations were resumed by Otto Wanner-Brandt who was inspired by the factories work and purchased the name, old molds, and formulas. It would be twenty years before figures were actually made. The figure depicting a bird seller is an example from the is factory. A chimney sweep accompanies the group and bears a Metzler & Ortloff maker’s mark to the underside. There are underglaze printed marks for Ludwigsburg on the verso.
