A handwoven Kerman area rug. The rug features a central medallion in a palette of light blue, pink, cream, navy, and yellow that sits on top of a deep blue field. The field offers a scalloped border that meets to a spandrel at each corner, covered in floral embellishments and arabesque linework. The field and spandrels are enclosed in a compound resolved border that offers floral palmettes, arabesque lines and lancet leaves in a matching palette as the central medallion. Each corner of the border showcases a large floral palmette and the rug offers a double knotted Kilim skirt with a cream fringe to either end. It is marked to the reverse ‘Kerman, Handwoven, 100% wool pile’.
