A graphite, gouache, and colored pencil drawing on paper of thumbnail sketches by Edgar Yaeger (American; 1904-1997). This drawing depicts six preliminary drawings for still lifes with two sketches embellished with blue and red. The artist’s signature is present to the lower left and center right of the drawing. This piece is presented matted and sealed in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
