Gary Lawton Hargis Outsider Art Walking Stick "There's A Slip Under Every Skirt"

Item Details

An original outsider art sculpted walking stick titled There’s A Slip Under Every Skirt by Gary Lawton Hargis. This piece, carved from a ’devil’s claw shrub,’ has been painted and lacquered in white, red, and black. A vintage ‘poison’ label has been fixed around the top, along with a piece of a vintage lace and chiffon slip. It is signed ‘Hargis 1993’ to the base.

Gary Lawton Hargis is a self-taught artist from Owensboro, Kentucky. Per the artist, this piece is inspired by ‘an old timers’ slogan referring to men that have quit drinking – that dating women again is dangerous to sobriety – hence there’s a slip under every skirt!’
