An original mixed-media outsider art sculpture titled Dawn of Remembered Spring (Snakes in Love) – Jesse Stuart by Gary Lawton Hargis. This piece depicts a group of snakes paired and intertwined. The snakes have been carved from twisted, bark-stripped tree vines wood and painted; they are set upright in a metal bedspring from a traveling mattress salesman’s demonstration piece, which was found by the artist in the woods.

Gary Lawton Hargis is a self-taught artist from Owensboro, Kentucky. This piece is inspired by and titled after the book Dawn of Remembered Spring by Kentucky author Jesse Stuart, the climax of which features a mating pair of snakes, referred to as ‘snakes in love.’
