An original watercolor painting on paper of a tropical landscape by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1940. This painting depicts a lush forest with stylized fern plants. Some of the graphite underdrawings are visible through the paint layers creating depth. The paper is signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
