Arthur Helwig Serigraph on Paper of Sunflowers
Item Details
A serigraph on paper of sunflowers by well-listed Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976), dated circa 1940s. The print depicts a vase of sunflowers in front of a blue background. It is signed by hand in paint to the lower right. Handwriting to the verso reads the artist, circa date, medium, and possible title. Presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Helwig was an active artist for over four decades and an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy. During this period he exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and across the United States. He was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig studied under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Hoover Wessel and James Hopkins. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well-known mural painter. His works are housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, the Philadelphia Museum and the Cleveland Art Museum.
