An acrylic painting on canvas board titled Lock on the St. Lawrence by Cincinnati-based artist Carolyn Zimmerman (b. 1903), created in 1961. Portrayed with loose brushstrokes, this painting features a view of the waterfront and dock with the water receding into the distance. The painting is signed in ink to the lower right. Handwriting to the verso reads the artist, title, date, and medium. The painting is presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Carolyn Zimmerman was born in Walton, Indiana and married prominent Cincinnati artist Carl Zimmerman. She started her formal artistic training at the Cincinnati Art Academy and studied with French sculptor and painter Antoine Bourdelle as well as Madame Levy-Ginsborg in Paris. Zimmerman body of work primarily focuses on forested landscapes. Carolyn along with her husband Carl Zimmerman were members of the Cincinnati School of Painters.
