Arthur Helwig Etching "Bathers"

An etching on paper titled Bathers by well-listed Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976), circa 1970. The print depicts three abstract figures in simple black lines and hatching with a deep vignette around them. The piece is presented matted with a backing board and sealed in acetate.
Helwig was an active artist for over four decades and an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy. During this period he exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and across the United States. He was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig studied under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Hoover Wessel and James Hopkins. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well-known mural painter. His works are housed at The Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, The Philadelphia Museum and The Cleveland Art Museum.
