An engraving on paper of an abstract figure, created in 1970 by well-listed Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976). The print features a nude figure rendered in a Cubist style, set in an interior space. Handwriting to the verso reads the artist, medium, and date of the work. The print is presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Helwig was an active artist for over four decades and an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy. During this period he exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and across the United States. He was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig studied under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Hoover Wessel, and James Hopkins. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well-known mural painter. His works are housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, the Philadelphia Museum and the Cleveland Art Museum.
