A watercolor painting on paper of a house along the water by well-listed Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976). The painting depicts a white house on the edge of a vibrant body of water. A small label to the verso reads the artist’s name. The painting is mounted on white foam board and wrapped in acetate.
Helwig was an active artist for over four decades and an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy. During this period he exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and across the United States. He was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig studied under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Hoover Wessel, and James Hopkins. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well-known mural painter. His works are housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, the Philadelphia Museum and the Cleveland Art Museum.
