Arthur Helwig Etching "The Eye"

An etching titled The Eye by well-listed Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976), created in 1973. The etching depicts an eye in blue surrounded by an abstract composition in white and red. It is signed and dated to the lower right and titled to the lower left. Presented in white matting and wrapped in acetate.

Helwig was an active artist for over four decades and an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy. During this period he exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and across the United States. He was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939 to 1941. Helwig studied under Theodore Dorl, Bessie Hoover Wessel and James Hopkins. He worked in watercolor, oils, and numerous printing methods and was also a well-known mural painter. His works are housed at The Cincinnati Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, The Philadelphia Museum and The Cleveland Art Museum.
