Adams Ironstone "Cries of London" Mug and Saucer
Item Details
An Adams Ironstone Cries of London mug and saucer. The large cup and saucer have hand tinted transferred images for the series Cries of London. The mug features the print A New Love Song only a Penny a Piece on one side and Knife and Scissor Grinding on the other. The saucer has Sweet China Oranges, Sweet China Oranges on the bottom. Cries of London was a series of engravings by F. Wheatly which provided a social commentary on the lives of the lower class residents of London. The series was originally published between 1792 and 1796 and depicts the people in Regency area garb.
