John Stobart Signed Artist's Proof 1972 Offset Lithograph with Graphite Remarque "Decks Awash"
Item Details
A signed limited edition artist’s proof offset lithograph after the original 1972 oil painting by well-listed nostalgic maritime artist John Stobart (Massachusetts; born 1929), titled Decks Awash. The image depicts a view from the decks of massive wooden schooner as it rocks violently on a turbulent sea, waves crashing over the sides of the ship as the crew works to ensure the vessel remains upright. In the distance, another ship is seen on the horizon, likely experiencing a similar situation. Artist’s signature is printed in plate to the lower right, and hand-signed in pencil just below in the margin, where the print is marked 2 in an edition of 25 artist’s preoofs. An original graphite remarque is sketched by the artist to the lower left margin. This print is mounted under a pale gray linen liner with gilt fillet, under glass in a beveled wood frame with a faux burled wood rounded veneer and gilt trim.
Condition
- frame is worn with chips, scratches and abrasions along edges and corners.
Dimensions
