A circa 1992 limited edition offset lithograph by American realist painter John Mecray (1937-) after the artist’s earlier painting. It depicts the crashing waves of the open ocean, with ships in the distant horizon. Below in curling typeface, it reads ‘’I have the keys of these great barriers of ocean that were closed with such mighty chains’ Christopher Columbus; On the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of the epic voyage from the painting by John Mecray’. It is hand signed in pencil to the bottom right corner, and numbered 312 out of an edition of 675 in the bottom left. This work is presented double matted in navy and white, under glass in a wooden frame, wired for hanging. A certificate of authenticity is attached on verso.
Condition
- print has shifted somewhat under mat; line where mat formerly was on upper right.
