Twenty-Third Summer Olympics Official Torch
Item Details
An official runner’s torch from the 1984 Summer Olympics torch relay, held during the XXIII Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles, California. There were more than 3,600 torch bearers in that year’s relay, which was run across the United States, covering a distance of more than 9,000 miles. The handle of the aluminum torch has a light colored stitched leather covering, and a brass tone collar marked ‘Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad – Los Angeles 1984’. The top has a brushed brass tone collar, marked ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’. A knurled brass knob at the base of the handle unscrews to access the fuel chamber. Included is a clear acrylic display stand, marked ‘The Olympic Torch – XXIIIrd Summer Games – Los Angeles’, the original paperwork, and a black faux leather zippered carrying bag. The bag is marked with a logo depicting a runner with a torch.
