1952 Walnut Sideboard Made by Peter Chert

A 1952 walnut sideboard made by Peter Chert. The craftsman Peter Chert moved to New York after World War II from Czechoslovakia and specially crafted this piece for the previous owners. The hutch consists of two pieces with display or bookshelves above and cabineted and drawered areas below. The below storage includes two lined drawers for silverware, a large platter storage area, a clear space originally used as a liquor cabinet. There is a pull-out surface above the liquor cabinet, a pull-down desk with inlaid leather writing space, and two more storage spaces. Below the writing desk is a cabineted four-drawer storage area, each drawer in the piece is dovetailed with finishing to the interior and bottoms.

Condition

Scratches and wear to the surfaces from use, all drawers are finished to the bottoms and interior.
