Vintage Herend "Rothschild Bird" Candlesticks and Soup Tureen

Item Details

A pre-1948 grouping of Herend hand-painted porcelain in the Rothschild Bird pattern. The presence of the crown in the mark denotes manufacture prior to the change in government in 1948. The slightly fluted soup tureen features a central bird on a branch motif with butterflies and insects scattered randomly. The lid is adorned with a halved lemon handle with a realistic stem and slice of lemon to the side, in addition to the scattered insects. The sides feature asparagus handles and applied roses. The oval foot has some discoloration to the underside . The mark, in cobalt blue, has a crescent ‘Hand painted’ the shield and crown mark with the words ‘Herend’ and ‘Hungary’ along with various mold and decorator ciphers. The pair of double baluster candle holders are of the same decorative theme and are accented with gold trim throughout. The candlesticks are marked with the same printed mark but with illegible ciphers. There is candle residue noted to the interior of the candle sticks.
