An original signed mixed media collage on paper by listed artist Josep Grau-Garriga (Spanish, 1928-2011) titled Figure With Dog. The black and white abstract Surrealistic work depicts a standing nude man, with an anguished countenance, face turned up with spiky hair, with left arm raised, part of a dog illustrated to the right side of the work. Both the man and the dog are loosely painted in a light ink wash, with fine ink linework. Overlaying the figures, to the lower half, are invoice receipt made out to the artist. The painting is displayed under glass, floated upon a white board, in a gilded and black painted beveled frame. Josep Grau-Garriga attended Escola de Belles Arts in Barcelona, where he excelled at etching. His work is widely exhibited and collected, in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Museum of Modern Art of Barcelona and The Denver Art Museum, among others. He is best known for tapestry art, mixed media, and abstract painting.
