Forrest King Moses Oil on Board "School Bell"

An original oil painting on masonite board by beloved primitive painter Forrest King Moses (American, 1893-1974), titled School Bell. The image depicts a bustling colonial town with inhabitants enjoying the fresh snow fall that covers the surrounding landscape. To image center, a gaggle of children race towards a full-mast American Flag after hearing the call of the school bell being rung by their teacher. The work is signed in brown paint to lower right. Preserved behind archival glass with a single ragboard mat having a gilt interior trim. The painting is housed inside a giltwood frame with beveled edge and wire for hanging to verso. A paper label affixed to the reverse bears an image of the artist in his studio, dated December 1966 and numbered 360 above the title.
