A mixed media painting on paper titled Saugatuck by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1942. With charcoal, watercolor, and gouache, the composition depicts a dense landscape filled with branches, trees, and shrubs. The work is signed, dated, and titled to the lower right. Presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
